Product Teams and Groups

Question"What is the difference between product teams and product groups?"

PMTK recognizes the product group as a high-level organizational unit. It is managed by a VP or CPO. The product group is also named the product management group.

The product group's counterpart is the engineering group. It is managed by the CTO or VP.

The product and engineering groups contains departments and each department contains teams.

In PMTK there are three teams. Product Management, Product Definition, Product Development. Each team is comprised of several roles.

All these teams constantly cooperate internally and with other teams, but own different domains and responsibilities.

Joining the product management with engineering departments under one product group, reporting to one executive, runs contrary to PMTK foundation rules, and can foster conflicting interests.
