New Product Team Concepts

People write about new product team concepts, qualifying them and describing their charter. But do they mean a product development team or a product management team?

One person described the idea of the new Product Team as being comprised of a product manager, product architect (aka product designer), and product developer. But was unable to decide if these are roles from different departments working together as a team, or all three roles reporting to and being managed by one executive. Who is managing that team?

The so-called new product team is supposed to manage risks: business, feasibility, technical risks. Also value and viability.

Anyone who wrote a business case is familiar with those risks, and knows they are identified prior to the product delivery process. Then these risks are managed by different members in both the product development team and product management team.

It seems this "new" product team concept is mixing everybody under the same roof. No separation between the product development and product management.

Assume complete agreement on roles and responsibilities. How do these roles and the new team achieve value and viability? What is the process and tasks? How can one measure the level of value and viability? Which criteria to use?

No answer there. Too vague.

It's simple talk like "Build the right product and build it right".
